Margorie McCall: a play of mystery and choice

My current major project is a play titled Margorie McCall, drawing inspiration from the enduring Irish legend of the same name. Her headstone, famously inscribed "Lived Once, Buried Twice," still stands in Shankill graveyard, Lurgan, County Armagh. The play uniquely engages its audience: at the close of Act One, it poses a central, unresolved question directly to them: "what happened when John opened the door?" The audience then decides by vote during intermission, and Act Two proceeds according to the result. Producing companies should be fully prepared to stage either version live, in its entirety, on any given night. The ending is not predetermined and should not be treated as such in performance, casting, or design.

The inspiration behind Margorie McCall

The inspiration for this intriguing play struck me after a visit to Margorie McCall's grave in 2016. Her remarkable story and the mystery surrounding her life never left my thoughts, ultimately culminating in this compelling theatrical experience. I hope audiences will be as captivated by her legend as I was.
